The Dome elevator is available for part of the ascent, but you will still need to climb approximately 300 steps to reach the very top. If you have seniors, individuals with disabilities, or those who are claustrophobic in your party, we suggest they wait in the Café area downstairs, as the staircase is narrow and the steps can be quite steep;
St. Peter’s Basilica is an active church and may be unexpectedly closed for liturgical ceremonies or other unforeseen circumstances;
Entry to the Basilica is permitted only to appropriately dressed visitors. Low-cut or sleeveless clothing, shorts, miniskirts, and hats are not allowed;
All visitors to the Basilica must undergo security checks, which may lead to queues, especially on crowded days;
